Dementia Care
The demand for care and support for those living with dementia is growing exponentially as people now live much longer and are therefore more likely to develop some form of dementia in old age. The Alzheimer’s Society estimates that by 2050, 1.6 million people in the UK will be diagnosed with some form of dementia.
The Beeches has been providing care to people with dementia for many years. Our care teams are trained in dementia awareness and behaviours, continuing to host The Virtual Dementia Tour® for our staff, clients and general public.
The Dementia Tour is an experience designed to help families, caregivers and organisations identify with and understand the behaviours and needs of those living with dementia. In essence it provides a sensory experience of what it may be like to live with dementia. It is scientifically and medically proven to be the closest simulation of dementia that a person with a healthy brain can experience.
Assistive technology will play an important part in the future of dementia care and is a new area where care can be integrated with face-to-face visits whilst also enabling high quality communication with loved ones who may live remotely and assisting to delay or reverse cognitive decline through brain training and mental exercise. The Beeches is contributing to the development of this new service and can offer advice and guidance to people with dementia and their loved ones, providing a proactive and positive approach to battle what many see as a hopeless degenerative condition.
We continue to grow and improve our dementia training, developing our knowledge, understanding and compassion as new research and resources emerge.
