Training

The Beeches has an established in-house training department. Its aims are threefold:

  • to offer a focussed programme of learning that is relevant to the skills and knowledge that our carers need to deliver the best care to our clients

  • to provide and fund a range of qualifications and specialisations that will enhance the development of our staff and provide opportunity for career development

  • to be able to react to changes in best practice and develop our own training in order to drive continual improvement in our service.

Induction Training

All recruits who are new to care undertake the Care Certificate as well as our full in-house induction programme, comprising 25 hours of face-to-face training and 12 hours online training in the following subjects:

  • Medication Support

  • Manual Handling

  • Basic Life Support

  • Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Pressure Ulcer Prevention

  • Mental Capacity Act

  • Dementia Care

  • Autism Awareness

  • Handling Information & GDPR

  • Cyber Security

  • Infection Prevention & Control

  • Catheter Care

  • Stoma Care

  • COSHH

  • Fire Safety

  • First Aid Skills

  • Safeguarding Adults

Refresher Training

All care workers attend regular practical refresher training sessions with the in-house Training Manager and also complete core modules online to keep their knowledge and practical skills up to date ensuring they are compliant in all mandatory subjects. Practical refresher training includes:

  • Basic Life Support and the Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Manual Handling (safe handling of equipment and people)

  • Medication Support (safe administration of medication)

Continuous Learning & Development

As part of The Beeches’ commitment to offering all staff continuous learning and development opportunities, care workers maintain a Personal Learning & Development Plan in conjunction with their Training Manager and Care Coordinator. Their educational and vocational needs are identified and reviewed on an ongoing basis and access to further training sourced and provided, examples of which include:

Level ll

These qualifications take 3 or 4 months to complete and are specialised courses focused on areas such as:

End of Life Care, Dementia Care, Diabetes Management, Stroke Awareness, Care Planning, Clinical Skills, Positive Behaviour Support.

Level lll, lV and V

These qualifications are usually completed in 12 – 18 months and include:

  • Level lll Diploma in Adult Care

  • Level lV Diploma in Adult Care

  • Level V Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care

These qualifications are all free of cost to staff and are funded by The Beeches.

Workshops

External trainers will visit our offices periodically to deliver face-to-face workshop-style training sessions on a variety of subjects, which largely depend on the training requirements of the business and skill/knowledge gaps identified in staff at the time.

Training for Supervisors and Management

Any employee promoted to the positions of Senior Care Worker or Care Coordinator undertake extensive training programmes.
